Nicholas Fox, Google, on future of search advertising at SES San Jose 2009

Greg Jarboe, SEO-PR, interviews keynote speaker Nicholas Fox, Business Product Management Director, Adwords, Google about Google adwords at SES San Jose 2009. Nicholas says the keyword isn’t dead but sees a future where you don’t have to give Google keywords but instead you can target your ads based on your business needs. Nicholas says with better ad formats that are more in sync with what users are searching for and with what the advertiser is trying to market, Google can do a better job of connecting the users with those advertisers. Nicholas says Google has seen great success with its conversion optimizer product, which is on a cost per acquisition basis yet still translates back into a cost per click bid per auction. Given this success, it’s easy for Google to see how advertisers are interested in tying their Adwords performance back to the fundamentals of their business. One of the big innovations in Adwords and search advertising in general, according to Nick, is the move from cost per impression to cost per click. Nick describes it as part of the natural evolution to go from cost per click to cost per acquisition. Nick says Google has hit a billion dollar run rate on its conversion optimizer product on an annual basis and Google expects that to continue. Not a chance. Also, your visitors are not going to appreciate coming to a site that has nothing to do with what they were searching for. You’ll probably have a list of at least 20 or 30 rather quickly, but you can rinse and repeat steps 1 and 2 for every related keyword. The whole point of a website is building it so that visitors can land on it. A major source of traffic for most sites on the Internet is search engines like Google, Yahoo!, Bing and so on. Hence, by designing a search engine friendly site with your internet marketing strategy, you will be able to rank easily in search engines and obtain more visitors.
The big search engines, use scripted programs known as crawlers (also known as spiderbots, or googlebots, etc…) in order to see what content is on a specific webpage. They find the page via other links on the internet, crawl the content, and then record the data on their servers for people to search for using their service.
If you want to make your site indexed easily, you should avoid using frames on your Vancouver website. Frames will only confuse search engine robots and they might even abandon your site because of that. Aside from the difficulty the crawlers will have, you also make navigation difficult for your website.
Avoid use of animated or flash landing pages for your homepage. It is still difficult for search engines to read content inside of a flash animation, and even if they can, the general content on your homepage will likely be skipped.
Make good use of meta tags for each page as you can quickly tell a search engine what content is on the page, and how relevant it is for a particular topic. By using meta tags, you are making the search engine robot’s job easier so they will crawl and index your site more frequently.
Stop using wrong HTML tags like to style your page. Use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) instead because they are more effective and efficient. CSS keeps the load times faster and reduces the amount of redundant html tags you have on your site.

How to Write a Webpage That is Liked by Search Engines

Webpages are written with an intend to share information or to persuade visitors to buy. If that could please search engines as well you would get a lot of traffic. There are many things that can result in higher listing by search engines.
This is called optimizing the page for search engine. Search engine optimization is a philosophy in itself and has many facets at which you can work upon.
But in this article, we focus on content optimization for the web page
Search engines have evolved over time and they ca no more be fooled by writing or stuffing keywords. Their algorithm has changed and your page needs to be good and well optimized for getting noticed.
Most of effective search engines heavily rely on actual keyword present in your text.
Before we move on to text we must also discuss “Title Tag”. It is the text that appears on search engine listing and also on browser bar when the web page is displayed.
In contrast to meta tags and keywords, title tag is still important.
Title tag is the text written in the section of the web page and after the tag. For example, the title of this article would be displayed in browser bar as you read it. Title tag is usually should be between 50 and 80 characters including spaces. The maximum allowed limit is is different for different search engines, so make sure that your most important words are near the beginning of the title.
A title tag has to be descriptive of the webpage. Therefore it should be a readable phrase and not a keyword list. If there are too many keywords in your title tag, your site could be seen as spamming.
and sections of the area are other two places where you can place your keywords, but a number of search engines today will go straight to the web copy after title tag.
You would want your copy to be liked by search engine but at the same time it should be readable by humans too and should not appear keyword stuffed. It is important to put keyword about every hundred words.
More important than where you put the keywords is choosing the right keywords. Therefore making a list of relevant keywords for your site would always come handy.
One last thing! It takes time to come into search engine listing. Search engines also consider how long you have been online. Therefore success on the search engines will not come overnight.
